The Experience
These sessions are designed to feel calm, unhurried, and natural; set within beautiful, quiet environments where your children and family can simply be.
The focus is always the same:
creating images that feel real, connected, and visually meaningful.
How we get there is thoughtful, but never forced.
Story Sessions
With younger children, sessions are often story- and play-based.
We begin with simple, aesthetically aligned objects, wooden toys, small scenes, or gentle prompts, that invite curiosity and help them settle into the space.
Each family will be guided during the session planning in selecting a story that resonates with their child/children. These stories are short and include small wooden, felt, and natural material based props. Children are naturally drawn in and the story ends with an invitation for open ended free play with these objects.
From there, the session unfolds through:
play and exploration
interaction with textures like moss, water, or stones
natural movement and moments of stillness
connection with parents or siblings
This approach creates a soft, engaging experience that works with a child’s natural rhythm rather than against it.
How the Session Is Shaped
Each session is guided based on your children’s age, personality, and energy.
Guided Portrait and Exploration Sessions
With older children, sessions become more exploratory and collaborative.
Designed for older children, siblings, and families, these sessions blend natural portraiture with movement, exploration, and interaction with the environment.
We might:
walk through the environment together
gather flowers or interact with the landscape
making with natural, found items - flower crowns, rock houses, etc.
pause in places that feel visually or emotionally interesting
allow for both movement and stillness
These sessions often include a blend of:
guided portraits
natural positioning (sitting, standing, walking)
interaction between siblings or family members
quiet, intentional moments
The experience remains calm, but allows for more independence and movement.
Across both, there is always a balance of:
natural interaction, gentle guidance and intentional, composed portraits
Sessions can focus on your children, sibling relationships, or your full family—depending on what feels most meaningful to you.
Before the Session
Before we ever meet, I take time to understand your family so the session feels aligned from the start.
Once booked, you’ll receive:
a pre-session questionnaire
wardrobe and preparation guidance
a session agreement
and a virtual planning meeting where we’ll thoughtfully shape the session together
This planning process helps me understand your family’s dynamic, your children’s personalities, and the overall feeling you’re hoping for so the session feels aligned from the very beginning.
During our planning meeting, we’ll talk through:
location and timing
the overall flow of the session
wardrobe guidance
weather backup planning
and any questions or concerns you may have beforehand
Together, we’ll also select both:
a primary session date
and a weather backup date
The goal is for everyone to arrive feeling prepared, supported, and able to settle naturally into the experience.
Session Length
Sessions are designed to unfold gently and without pressure.
Most sessions last around two hours, though some naturally end sooner depending on the energy and flow of the day. The extra time allows space for children to settle in, explore naturally, and move at a comfortable pace rather than feeling rushed.
Gallery Delivery
Final galleries are delivered within approximately 2–3 weeks.
Each gallery is carefully curated and edited for consistency, atmosphere, and storytelling so the final collection feels cohesive and intentional from beginning to end.
Wardrobe
Wardrobe plays a significant role in the overall feeling of the images.
I’ll send a detailed preparation and wardrobe guide after booking, but in general, sessions photograph best in:
soft neutrals
earthy tones
natural textures
simple, comfortable clothing that allows movement
The goal is always for the clothing to support the mood and connection of the session rather than distract from it.
Weather & Rescheduling
Because these sessions rely heavily on natural light and outdoor environments, weather plays an important role.
During our planning meeting, we’ll select both:
a session date
and a weather backup date
I take weather and safety seriously and will always prioritize comfort, safety, and the overall experience, especially when young children are involved.
Sometimes children simply need more time, space, or a different day and that’s completely okay.
The goal is never to force children through an experience they are struggling with. Some of the most meaningful sessions happen after allowing space for everyone to return feeling more settled and supported on another day.
